Collett Delivers Enercon E-138 Wind Turbines to Dragon LNG Facility in Wales

Collett has delivered three Enercon E-138 wind turbines to the Dragon LNG terminal in Wales, transporting oversized components from the Port of Pembroke.

30-Second Takeaway Heavy transport specialist Collett  has completed the delivery of three Enercon E-138 wind turbines  to the Dragon LNG terminal in Wales , supporting the facility’s transition to lower-emission operations. The project involved transporting 39 turbine components and 12 containers of equipment , including 68-metre blades and tower sections weighing up to 73 tonnes , from the Port of Pembroke  to the LNG site through a complex logistics operation. Collett Completes Wind Turbine Deliveries for Dragon LNG Specialist heavy transport and logistics company Collett  has successfully completed the delivery of three Enercon E-138 wind turbines  to the Dragon LNG facility in Wales . The turbines form part of a project aimed at reducing emissions at the LNG terminal  by generating renewable electricity for the site’s operations. Once operational, the wind turbines will produce renewable power for the terminal , complementing an existing solar park  already installed at the facility. The combined renewable energy infrastructure will help improve energy resilience and sustainability at the Dragon LNG site . Transporting Large Wind Turbine Components The logistics operation involved transporting 39 turbine components  along with 12 containers of supporting equipment  required for installation. Each turbine consisted of several major components, including: Rotor blades Tower sections Nacelle units Hub assemblies The longest turbine blades measured 68 metres , while the heaviest tower section weighed 73 tonnes . Specialised heavy transport equipment was required to move these oversized components, including: Super wing carriers  for turbine blades Tower clamp trailers  for large tower sections These transport systems allow large wind turbine components to be moved safely and efficiently while maintaining stability during transport. Port of Pembroke to Dragon LNG Site All turbine components arrived in Wales via the Port of Pembroke , where they were unloaded before being transported to the Dragon LNG terminal. The transport route covered a distance of approximately seven miles , but involved navigating a constrained and busy road network . To minimise disruption, deliveries were carefully scheduled in coordination with local authorities and police . Transport operations were also timed to avoid peak traffic periods. Detailed Route Planning and Infrastructure Preparation The project required extensive preparation to ensure the safe movement of oversized turbine components. Collett conducted detailed planning activities including: Route surveys Swept path analysis Bridge and infrastructure assessments Temporary infrastructure adjustments were also implemented where required, including road widening and route modifications . These preparations ensured the large wind turbine components could be transported safely through urban and industrial areas . Coordinated Transport Operations Each delivery movement involved an 11-person team , including drivers, escort vehicles and project management personnel. Transport operations were carried out twice daily , allowing the project to maintain efficiency while reducing the impact on local traffic. Collett said the project demonstrated the company’s capability to manage complex wind turbine logistics in challenging environments , particularly within built-up areas and high-security industrial locations . Stakeholders including Enercon  and Dragon Energy  praised the collaboration and planning involved in completing the project. The successful delivery highlights the importance of specialised heavy transport expertise in enabling renewable energy infrastructure projects .
