How Section 232 Tariffs Ripple Through the U.S. Crane Industry
In U.S. trade law, Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962Â authorizes the government to impose tariffs on imports that may threaten national security. In 2018, the administration implemented Section 232 tariffs on steel and aluminum. While intended to bolster domestic metals production, the measures also captured downstream, steel-intensive equipment including mobile cranes.
