Industry Mourns the Passing of Crane Media Veteran Michael Posener

The crane and construction industries mourn the passing of respected publishing veteran Michael Posener.

30-Second Takeaway Michael Posener, a long-time and highly respected figure in the global crane, construction, and trade-publishing industries, passed away on 19 June 2025  at the age of 67  following a serious illness. With a career spanning construction, crane operations, and more than two decades in specialist industry media, Posener leaves behind a legacy defined by authenticity, technical understanding, and deep respect for the people behind the machines. Michael Posener , a highly respected figure in the crane, construction, and publishing industries. Mike passed away on 19 June 2025 , aged 67. A Life Rooted in Construction Michael Posener was born in Westminster, London, in 1958 , to a family that had emigrated from Germany just prior to the outbreak of the Second World War. Raised in the south of England, he trained as a carpenter and joiner , grounding his career in hands-on construction skills that would shape his professional outlook for decades to come. In the early stages of his working life, Posener operated his own construction company in Germany , where he first engaged directly with cranes not as a spectator or commentator, but as an end user . This practical experience fostered a lasting respect for lifting equipment and the professionals who operate it, a perspective that would later distinguish his work in publishing. From Jobsite to Journalism Posener’s transition into business-to-business publishing  in the 1990s marked the beginning of a second, highly influential chapter in his career. He quickly earned a reputation for combining commercial acumen with genuine technical understanding , a rare combination that resonated strongly with manufacturers, rental companies, and contractors alike. His early publishing career included a senior commercial role at Wilmington Publishing , working on Cranes Today  magazine then one of the world’s leading crane and heavy transport publications. There, he helped strengthen relationships across the UK and European crane markets, supporting editorial strategies that prioritised technical credibility and industry relevance. A Recognised Force in Trade Media Posener later joined Vertikal Press , where he became a key figure behind the growth of Cranes & Access  magazine. Known for his energetic, straightforward approach and deep equipment knowledge, he played a significant role in expanding the publication’s presence across the lifting, access, and telehandler sectors. His honesty, collaboration, and insight earned him long-standing respect throughout the industry. He subsequently spent nearly two decades with KHL Group , holding senior sales and advertising roles across Access International  and later International Cranes and Specialized Transport . He remained with KHL until April 2024 , contributing to the evolution of some of the industry’s most widely recognised global titles. Later Career and Continued Influence In his most recent professional chapter, Posener served as Marketing and New Business Director for Stafford Crane Group , based in Ireland a country he had called home for several years. Even in this role outside traditional publishing, his industry insight, commercial perspective, and direct communication style made him a valued colleague and trusted adviser. A Passion for People and Industry Mike Posener’s enthusiasm for the crane industry was unmistakable. Whether at a trade show, on a jobsite, in a boardroom, or behind a magazine desk, he brought energy, curiosity, and authenticity  to every interaction. While he admired the machines, it was always the people operators, engineers, managers, and entrepreneurs who most inspired him. He was known for his sharp wit, direct manner, and willingness to mentor others , particularly those new to the industry or navigating its complexities. Resilience Until the End Despite enduring significant health challenges in recent years, Posener remained professionally active and personally engaged. He faced illness with the same determination and realism that defined his career, continuing to contribute to the industry he loved for as long as he was able. A Lasting Legacy Michael Posener’s passing will be felt deeply across the global crane, construction, and specialist publishing communities. His career bridged jobsite reality and industry storytelling , leaving a legacy rooted in credibility, connection, and respect. Crane Hub extends its sincere condolences to Mike’s partner Silvia, his son Liam, and to his family, friends, and colleagues worldwide . He will be remembered for his dedication, his humour, and his enduring contribution to the crane and construction publishing world.
