Manitowoc has launched the Potain MCT 2205 topless tower crane at Bauma China 2024. Built in Zhangjiagang, China, the crane features an 80 m jib, 80 t maximum capacity, compact flat-top design, and simplified transport. With strong load charts and multiple counter-jib options, the MCT 2205 targets large infrastructure, power, and mega construction projects across Asia.

Designed for large infrastructure and mega projects, the crane combines high load charts with reduced site interference. High-Capacity Topless Crane for Large Projects Manitowoc has announced a major expansion of its Asia tower crane portfolio with the launch of the Potain MCT 2205  at Bauma China 2024 . The new model is the largest topless tower crane produced at Manitowoc’s Zhangjiagang, China  facility and is designed to deliver lifting performance comparable to the largest Potain hammerhead cranes while retaining the operational advantages of a flat-top design. The MCT 2205 M80  is equipped with an 80-meter jib  and offers a maximum lifting capacity of 80 tonnes , positioning it for large-scale infrastructure, power generation, and industrial construction projects. Transport, Assembly, and Site Integration Despite its size, the MCT 2205 is designed with logistics and site efficiency in mind. The entire top-slewing assembly, including all 11 jib sections , can be transported in just 16 trailers or containers , simplifying transport planning and reducing site congestion. The crane is compatible with Potain’s well-proven R99A and R910A mast systems , using a mast-climbing configuration suited to tall and heavy-duty installations. Its flat-top configuration removes the need for a tower head, enabling easier crane-to-crane interaction on congested sites and reducing interference when multiple cranes are operating simultaneously. Load Charts and Working Heights The MCT 2205 delivers strong lifting performance across a range of configurations. With its full 80-meter jib , the crane can handle 23.5 tonnes at the jib tip , while its maximum 80-tonne capacity  is available between 5 and 26.3 meters . When configured with shorter jib lengths: The 80-tonne capacity extends to 30.5 meters  with 45 m or 50 m jib setups A 72.9-tonne load  can be lifted near the end of a 30-meter jib  (four sections) The crane can reach a hook height of 71 meters  using PA950 fixing angles , or up to 99.9 meters  with PA952 fixing angles , offering flexibility for high-rise and heavy industrial applications. To support operations in confined environments, the MCT 2205 offers two counter-jib options: a full 25.2-meter counter jib  or a shorter 20.2-meter version , with up to 124 tonnes of ballast  available. Hoisting, Slewing, and Operator Environment The crane is equipped with Potain’s V140S Vision Cab , designed for operator visibility and ergonomics during heavy lifting operations. Hoisting is handled by the 280 LVFC 200 Optima winch , supplied with 1,007 meters of rope  and powered by a 280 hp (212 kW) motor , enabling lifting speeds of up to 12 m/min  at maximum load. Horizontal load movement is managed by the 25 DVFC 35 trolley , capable of infinitely variable speeds up to 25 m/min , while four RVFC 194 Optima+ slewing motors  control rotation of the upper structure.
