BCS Crane Hire Takes Delivery of Liebherr LTM 1150-5.3 in Limerick

30-Second Takeaway

BCS Crane Hire, based in Limerick, Ireland, has taken delivery of a new Liebherr LTM 1150-5.3, a 150 tonne five-axle mobile crane. With a 66 metre telescopic boom, advanced VarioBase® stabilisation and the ZF TraXon DynamicPerform gearbox, the crane enhances both lifting performance and travel efficiency while reducing the need for additional support vehicles.

Liebherr LTM 1150-5.3 Strengthens Irish Fleet

Irish rental specialist BCS Crane Hire has expanded its fleet with the addition of a Liebherr LTM 1150-5.3, reinforcing its lifting capabilities across Ireland.

The 150 tonne, five-axle All Terrain crane is designed to deliver strong performance in both urban and infrastructure environments, combining long reach with transport efficiency.

Headquartered in Limerick, BCS continues to invest in modern lifting technology to meet growing demand across construction, industrial and infrastructure sectors.

LTM 1150-5.3 Performance and Configuration

Liebherr LTM 1150-5.3 Specifications

The LTM 1150-5.3 offers:

  • 66 metre telescopic boom

  • 10.8m – 19m double swingaway fly jib

  • Optional 7 metre insert

  • Up to 92 metre hook height

  • Up to 72 metre working radius

This configuration provides versatility for a broad range of lifting applications, from steel erection and commercial construction to infrastructure and energy projects.

A key feature is the crane’s ability to carry 29 tonnes of its 45 tonne counterweight while travelling.

By transporting over half of its ballast on board, the crane reduces reliance on additional support vehicles improving mobilisation speed, site efficiency and operating economy.

Advanced Technology for Safety and Efficiency

The crane incorporates VarioBase® technology, Liebherr’s variable outrigger positioning system.

VarioBase® enhances safety and maximises lifting performance by allowing each outrigger to be extended to a different length, adapting to restricted site conditions while maintaining accurate load chart calculations.

The crane is also equipped with the ZF TraXon DynamicPerform gearbox, which enables:

  • Smooth and precise manoeuvring

  • Wear-free clutch operation

  • Improved durability during frequent stop-start operations

  • Enhanced driver comfort and control

This drivetrain technology is particularly beneficial for cranes operating in tight urban environments or on challenging access routes.

Strategic Investment for Nationwide Operations

For BCS Crane Hire, the addition of the LTM 1150-5.3 strengthens the company’s position in the competitive 150 tonne segment a capacity class widely regarded as a versatile “core fleet” category in the European and Irish markets.

The combination of:

  • Long boom length

  • Strong load charts

  • Ballast carrying capability

  • Five-axle road compliance

makes the model well suited to projects requiring both reach and rapid mobilisation.

David Holohan, Liebherr Ireland Sales Manager for Mobile, Crawler and MK Cranes, extended his congratulations: He wished BCS Crane Hire every success with their new crane and thanked William and Ciaran for their continued partnership and trust.
