Manitowoc Launches Mobile Training & Technology Center to Deliver Crane Training On-Site

30-Second Takeaway

Manitowoc has unveiled a new Mobile Training & Technology Center, a fully equipped modular classroom designed to deliver crane technician training directly at dealer sites across North America. The mobile unit, which travels on a 53-ft trailer, allows apprentice technicians to receive hands-on instruction without the need for travel, strengthening workforce development across the crane industry.

Manitowoc Introduces Mobile Training Solution for Crane Technicians

Crane manufacturer Manitowoc has launched a new Mobile Training & Technology Center, designed to bring technician training directly to dealer locations.

The mobile classroom was unveiled at CONEXPO CON/AGG in Las Vegas, highlighting Manitowoc’s ongoing commitment to workforce development and aftermarket support.

According to the company, the new facility enables technicians to receive structured training without the need to travel to a fixed training center, making it easier for dealers to strengthen their service teams.

Training Delivered Directly at Dealer Sites

The Mobile Training & Technology Center is built as a modular classroom that can be transported across North America. The unit travels on a 53-foot step-deck trailer and can be deployed on site using hydraulic jacks.

Once positioned, the classroom expands to a working space measuring approximately:

  • 43 ft by 25 ft

  • Setup time of around four hours

This mobility allows Manitowoc to deliver training programs directly at dealer facilities, enabling technicians to gain practical knowledge in an active workshop environment.

High-Tech Classroom Equipped for Modern Training

The training center includes a range of modern multimedia tools designed to support technical instruction.

Features include:

  • Wi-Fi connectivity

  • Two large display screens

  • SMART interactive digital board

  • Fully equipped classroom layout

Manitowoc instructors lead the sessions, with training programs tailored to the specific requirements of each dealer location.

Entry-Level Training for Crane Technicians

The Mobile Training & Technology Center primarily supports entry-level training programs.

These courses are designed for:

  • Apprentice crane technicians

  • Shop-based service technicians

  • New service personnel entering the industry

By hosting the training at dealer locations, participants can also gain exposure to live maintenance and repair activities taking place in the workshop environment.

In some cases, technicians may even be able to study the specific crane model being covered during training if it is present at the dealer’s facility.

Strengthening Manitowoc’s Aftermarket Support

According to Andy Coy, Global Training Manager for Manitowoc, the initiative reflects the company’s focus on strengthening its aftermarket support network.

“Well-run training programs help companies maximize their return on invested capital, ensuring cranes run at their optimum level and handle more work,” Coy explained.
“With the Mobile Training & Technology Center, we can go to the student rather than the student coming to us.”

Manitowoc says it is currently the only crane manufacturer offering a mobile training classroom of this type in North America.

Supporting Workforce Development Across North America

The training center will travel across North America, visiting dealer locations where groups of six or more technicians require training.

While the mobile unit focuses on entry-level technician development, Manitowoc also

provides advanced training programs at its permanent facilities located in:

  • Shady Grove, Pennsylvania

  • Denver, Colorado

Together, these training initiatives help build the technical skills required to maintain modern crane fleets.
