Auto Kurz GmbH Upgrades Fleet with Liebherr LTM 1070-4.2 Mobile Crane

Updated: Jan 12

30-Second Takeaway

Auto Kurz GmbH, based in North Hesse, has taken delivery of a new Liebherr LTM 1070-4.2 mobile crane, replacing an existing LTM 1090-4.2. The 70-tonne, four-axle crane strengthens the company’s fleet by closing the gap between loader cranes and 90–120-tonne mobile cranes, offering proven performance, innovative technology, and strong long-term value.

Auto Kurz GmbH Takes Delivery of Liebherr LTM 1070-4.2

Auto Kurz GmbH has expanded its crane fleet with the delivery of a new Liebherr LTM 1070-4.2 mobile crane. The machine replaces a five-year-old LTM 1090-4.2 and will support a wide range of lifting operations across the company’s project portfolio in North Hesse.

The Liebherr 70-tonner is a well-established crane model that has been continuously developed to incorporate the latest mobile crane technology, with service quality, reliability, and value retention cited as key decision factors.

Filling the Capacity Gap in the Fleet

The LTM 1070-4.2 plays a strategic role within the Auto Kurz fleet, bridging the operational gap between large loader cranes and mobile cranes in the 90–120-tonne class.

Managing Director Johannes Daume explains:

“A 70-tonner fits very well into our portfolio, as it closes the gap between our large loader cranes and our mobile cranes in the 90–120-tonne class. The LTM 1070-4.2 is a mature product and enjoys a very good reputation. The well-known ease of operation and innovative technology such as VarioBase® round off the crane.”

Proven Crane with Innovative Technology

The Liebherr LTM 1070-4.2 features a 50-metre telescopic boom and has been proving its value on construction sites worldwide for nearly two decades. As a four-axle mobile crane, it has been continuously updated to reflect the latest advances in crane engineering.

Key technology highlights include:

  • VarioBase® variable support system for higher lifting performance and increased safety, particularly in confined spaces

  • ECOmode and ECOdrive for reduced fuel consumption and lower noise emissions

  • ZF TraXon DynamicPerform transmission with oil-cooled clutch module for wear-free starting and manoeuvring

  • Quick-change ballast system for flexible axle load configurations

With 3.8 tonnes of ballast, the crane has a total weight of 40 tonnes and an axle load of 10 tonnes. With an axle load of 12 tonnes, it carries 10.7 tonnes of counterweight, allowing many lifts to be completed without additional ballast transport.

Compact, Manoeuvrable, and Ready for Work

The LTM 1070-4.2 is equipped with Liebherr’s proven TELEMATIK single-cylinder telescoping system, enabling smooth and automatic extension of the telescopic boom to the required length.

Additional performance features include:

  • Active, speed-dependent rear-axle steering for excellent manoeuvrability both on-road and off-road

  • Ability to carry the majority of its ballast on the road, allowing the crane to be immediately operational upon arrival at site

As the smallest of Liebherr’s four-axle cranes, the LTM 1070-4.2 combines compact dimensions with impressive lifting potential.

Wide Range of Applications

Auto Kurz will deploy the new 70-tonne mobile crane across a variety of applications, with one of the primary uses being the installation of precast concrete elements.

In addition to six loader cranes and the new LTM 1070-4.2, Auto Kurz operates two additional mobile cranes, both supplied by Liebherr.

Reflecting on the long-standing partnership, Johannes Daume adds:

“We have been working with Liebherr on a basis of trust for a long time. The service is excellent and we always receive prompt support. The cranes are robust and durable and therefore also very stable in value, which is very valuable in today’s fast-moving times.”
