Veteran Lift Manager Dave Williams Joins Berkeley Crane Hire

30 Second Takeaway

UK crane rental start-up Berkeley Crane Hire has appointed industry veteran Dave Williams as Contract Lift Manager, bringing more than five decades of crane and lifting experience to the South West-based business. Williams’ appointment strengthens Berkeley’s leadership team as it expands its contract lifting services across Gloucestershire, Bristol, and South Wales.

Experienced Leadership for a Growing Crane Business

Berkeley Crane Hire, a UK crane rental start-up founded in 2024, has appointed Bristol-based crane rental veteran Dave Williams as its new Contract Lift Manager.

Williams brings a wealth of experience gained over 56 years in the crane and lifting industry, reinforcing Berkeley’s focus on safe, professionally managed contract lifting operations.

A Career Spanning More Than Half a Century

Dave Williams began his crane career in 1969, aged just 15, as a trainee crane operator with GW Sparrow & Sons. Over time, the company evolved into Grayson White & Sparrows, before becoming part of Ainscough Crane Hire.

Williams went on to hold the role of Contract Lift Manager at Ainscough’s Bristol depot, where he built a strong reputation for technical expertise, leadership, and safe lift planning.

He took semi-retirement in 2020, but after more than five decades in the industry, has chosen to remain active in the profession.

Strengthening Berkeley’s Contract Lift Capability

Commenting on the appointment, Ryan Dobson, Managing Director of Berkeley Crane Hire, said:

“With his extensive experience and well-earned reputation across the crane and construction industry, Dave is a fantastic addition to our team. We are truly excited to have his knowledge and leadership on board.”

Williams’ role will focus on overseeing contract lift planning, risk assessments, and safe execution of complex lifting operations as Berkeley continues to grow its regional presence.

Berkeley Crane Hire was incorporated in 2024 by Ryan Dobson and is based in Berkeley, South Gloucestershire, strategically located between Bristol and Cheltenham.

He later worked as a Lift Supervisor on the Hinkley Point C nuclear power station project with the Bylor joint venture, before leaving in mid-2024 to establish Berkeley Crane Hire.

Diverse Fleet Supports Regional Lifting Needs

Berkeley Crane Hire operates a diverse fleet of cranes, ranging from compact city machines to high-capacity All Terrains, including:
