- German engineering at its finest 🇩🇪🇩🇪🇩🇪🇩🇪
Just when you thought your crane couldn’t get any better the guys and girls at Liebherr go and release this, the brand new LTM1110-5.2. The first thing you notice is the spanking new drivers front cab, completely redesigned with new technology and driver comforts. the new LTM is the first crane to be fitted with liebherr’s new LICCON3 computer control system, with new touch screen in the top operators cab. one of the new features that Liebherr is boasting about is the pull down sun visor on the drivers door of the bottom cab but one of the more convenient and time saving new designs is the location of the BTT (remote control) this shows that at some point Liebherr designers have actually listened to customers and operators and placed the remote in a convenient location right near the door, well played Liebherr, well played. Right now for a look at the inside of the completely new redesigned drivers cab. A completely new, modern automatic heating and climate control system in both the driver’s and operator’s cabs guarantees comfortable working conditions. A sun sensor detects strong sunshine and automatically adjusts the heating settings. In addition to the standard radio with hands-free facility, a double DIN radio with extended functions and a cool box all to make operating this crane more enjoyable from the moment you leave the yard. The updated lighting is another highlight – we have improved the lighting packages for the crane cabs, the superstructure, the rear of the vehicle, the front headlights and the telescopic boom as well as the lattice jibs. These now feature LEDs. LED equipment delivers a long service life and improved illumination.
- BIG CARL BACK IN ACTION
Sarens largest ring crane the SGC250 is back in action doing what it does best, lifting another large steel ring for EDF at Hinkley point C. The installation shows how building an identical copy of the first reactor drives efficiency and saves time. The ring was built 25% more quickly than the same part on unit one, requiring thousands of hours less labour to manufacture. This “replication effect” will benefit the identical Sizewell C project in Suffolk. The prefabricated ring, which is 47 metres in diameter and 17 metres high, forms a reinforced cylinder around the nuclear reactor. The achievement is all the more impressive as the project deliberately switched materials and labour away from unit two during the pandemic when numbers on site were limited and suppliers were impacted. This allowed work to focus on areas most critical to the project’s schedule. The optimum construction time between the two reactors at Hinkley Point C is around 12 months and this installation highlights this gap is being maintained.
- Crane drops blades into ocean
Turbine Parts Dropped Into Sea at Ormonde Offshore Wind Farm We have been sent this video of a series incident of the coast of the UK which shows a large hub with blades being exchanged when it appears the lifting gear fails and the 126t load drops into the sea. Locals in the area have been warned that debris could start to wash up along the coast line which will be mostly fibre glass fragment and large sections of blades. There seems to be no damage to the ship ( MPI Adventurer) or injuries, even tho the Liebherr LTR1100 seems to be a near write off. A statement from Vattenfall reads “An incident during planned maintenance at Ormonde Offshore Wind Farm resulted in components falling into the sea. No-one was injured, but we alerted the relevant authorities immediately and we have launched a full investigation “, a spokesperson from Vattenfall said in a statement to OffshoreWIND.biz. “In addition to determining what happened, our attention is focused on ensuring that any debris in the sea or washing up onshore is cleaned up as quickly as possible”.
