Dingli ‘No Oil’ Scissor Lifts Support Construction Work at Antarctica’s Rothera Research Station

30-Second Takeaway

Four Dingli JCPT0807PA oil-free electric scissor lifts have been deployed at the British Antarctic Survey’s Rothera Research Station, supporting construction inside the Discovery Building. Supplied by Nationwide Platforms, the Dingli JCPT0807PA scissor lifts were selected for their hydraulic-free design, compact dimensions, and low power consumption—making them ideal for Antarctic construction where environmental protection and reliability are critical.

Dingli JCPT0807PA scissor lifts deployed in Antarctica

UK powered access rental specialist Nationwide Platforms has supplied four 19ft Dingli JCPT0807PA “No Oil” scissor lifts to the British Antarctic Survey’s Rothera Research Station, one of the most remote construction environments in the world.

The Dingli JCPT0807PA scissor lifts were delivered to contractor BAM UK&I for use inside the station’s new Discovery Building, a key part of the Antarctic research facility’s modernisation programme.

Electric scissor lift design eliminates hydraulic risk

The Dingli JCPT0807PA was introduced in 2022 as part of a new generation of electric scissor lifts engineered without hydraulic systems. Instead of traditional cylinders, the Dingli JCPT0807PA uses electric-powered screw-type actuators, creating a fully oil-free scissor lift solution.

This design eliminates the risk of oil leaks, making the Dingli JCPT0807PA ideal for sensitive indoor environments such as laboratories, clean buildings, and Antarctic construction projects where environmental protection is critical.

The Dingli JCPT0807PA scissor lift offers a 7.8 metre working height, 760mm overall width, 1.86 metre length, and a 230kg platform capacity, allowing efficient operation in confined internal spaces.

Why the Dingli JCPT0807PA was selected for Antarctica

The Dingli JCPT0807PA was specifically selected for use inside the Discovery Building, where strict environmental controls prohibit any powered access equipment that could leak oil.

In Antarctica, logistics are complex and environmental regulations are uncompromising. Every machine, including the Dingli JCPT0807PA scissor lifts, must deliver on reliability, sustainability, and low maintenance requirements.

The compact footprint of the Dingli JCPT0807PA also made it well suited for internal construction work within the building’s confined operational areas.

Reliable performance in extreme cold conditions

Despite operating in extreme cold, the Dingli JCPT0807PA electric scissor lifts delivered consistent performance throughout the project.

Careful battery management combined with the low power consumption of the Dingli JCPT0807PA helped ensure reliable uptime while reducing load on the station’s diesel generators an important factor for remote Antarctic construction sites.

Industry validation for oil-free scissor lift technology

The project demonstrates the real-world value of oil-free scissor lifts like the Dingli JCPT0807PA in high-risk, environmentally controlled environments.

Nationwide Platforms’ head of market development, Matt Parfitt, said

“With proven reliability in a region where margin for error is minimal, the JCPT0807PA has demonstrated the value of compact, oil-free, electric scissor lifts at one of the world’s most challenging and extraordinary construction sites.”

BAM construction manager Johannes Smit added

“Working in Antarctica demands a level of planning and precision unlike any other environment. Every piece of equipment must justify its place on site, not only in terms of performance, but in sustainability, reliability and ease of maintenance.”
“These scissor lifts have proven invaluable in supporting safe, efficient progress within the Discovery Building, helping our teams deliver critical works while protecting the unique Antarctic environment.”

A milestone for Dingli JCPT0807PA in global applications

The deployment of the Dingli JCPT0807PA at Rothera Research Station reinforces the role of electric scissor lifts in future-focused construction projects.

For Dingli, the project highlights the global demand for oil-free powered access equipment, while Nationwide Platforms continues to demonstrate its ability to deliver specialist powered access solutions in extreme environments.

The Dingli JCPT0807PA scissor lift now stands as a proven solution for remote construction, environmentally sensitive sites, and high-performance indoor applications.
