Skyjack Launches New 40ft Compact Rough Terrain Scissor Lift

30 Second Takeaway

Skyjack has expanded its compact Rough Terrain scissor lineup with the launch of the 40ft SJ6940 RT, combining higher reach, long deck length, and simplified maintenance to meet rental and contractor demand across global markets.

Skyjack SJ6940 RT Compact Rough Terrain Scissor Lift

Skyjack has announced the launch of the SJ6940 RT, an all-new 40ft compact Rough Terrain scissor lift that now sits at the top of the company’s compact RT scissor range.

The new model delivers a maximum working height of just over 14 metres and a maximum platform capacity of 363kg, rated for three people indoors and two outdoors.

Platform Performance and Reach

The SJ6940 RT is equipped with a 1.07-metre roll-out deck extension, delivering one of the longest platform decks in the compact RT category.

Key performance highlights include:

  • Deck length with extension: 4.52 metres

  • Driveable at full height, even with the deck extended

  • Designed to optimise productivity in rough and uneven terrain

These features make the machine suitable for construction, industrial maintenance, and infrastructure projects where reach and stability are critical.

Rough Terrain Capability and Drive System

European and Australian versions of the SJ6940 RT are supplied as standard with:

  • Oscillating front steering axle

  • Auto-levelling outriggers

For North American (ANSI/CSA) models, these features are available as options.

Power is provided by a Kubota diesel engine, which is HVO compatible, while the four-wheel drive system utilises:

  • Four hydraulic wheel motors

  • Torque hubs

  • Intelligent adaptive drive system

This configuration is designed to maximise traction and performance in demanding ground conditions.

Compact Dimensions and Transport Efficiency

Despite its increased reach, the SJ6940 RT retains a compact footprint:

  • Overall width: 1.8 metres

  • Overall length (stowed): 3.63 metres

  • Overall height: 2.74 metres

  • Stowed height with guardrails folded: 1.91 metres

  • Total operating weight: 5,135kg

These dimensions support transport efficiency and access to constrained job sites.

Designed for Rental and Sustainability

Skyjack president Charlie Patterson said the new model reflects the company’s rental-focused design philosophy:

“At Skyjack, we pride ourselves on designing for rental and building machines that optimise productivity. The new SJ6940 RT scissor offers outstanding performance and an impressive platform capacity.”

Product manager Corey Connolly highlighted durability and sustainability:

“The SJ6940 RT is purpose built to outperform in rough terrain conditions. Our four-level scissor stack with a single lift cylinder design significantly reduces leak points and simplifies maintenance.”

Connolly added that, in line with Skyjack’s sustainability goals, the machine features an HVO-compatible engine, with a dual-fuel option available in North America.

Global Launch and Availability

The SJ6940 RT will make its first public appearance at ARA and Conexpo, both taking place during the first week of March.

Skyjack confirmed the model is available to ship now in the Americas, Europe, and Australia.

The same shows will also see the North American debut of:

  • The SJ5545 E electric-drive slab scissor lift

  • The SJ45 AJE+ and SJ60 AJHE+ electric/hybrid articulated boom lifts
