UK rental specialist J&M Crane & Transport has taken delivery of a 250-tonne Grove GMK5250XL-1 All Terrain crane, which now takes over as the company’s fleet flagship.

The new crane will operate alongside J&M’s existing Grove GMK5250L, increasing fleet availability and allowing the company to support a broader range of lifting projects.


Crane Specifications and Capabilities


The Grove GMK5250XL-1 is configured with:

  • An eight-section, 78.5-metre main boom

  • An 18-metre bi-fold swingaway extension

  • Extension capability up to 34 metres using additional inserts


Key features include:

  • Grove Maxbase variable outrigger system

  • All-wheel steering for improved manoeuvrability

  • A single Stage V Mercedes diesel engine, compatible with HVO fuel, supporting reduced emissions


These features provide enhanced reach, flexibility, and efficiency on complex lift sites.


Fleet Investment Strategy


J&M managing director James Lawrence said the new crane strengthens the company’s operational reach:

“The secret is out, we have a brand new Grove GMK5250XL which will run alongside our GMK5250L, enabling us to offer more coverage. Thank you to James Leishman and everyone at Grove that helped us get this deal over the line in a very short time.”

The handover took place with representatives from Manitowoc/Grove, marking the latest step in J&M’s ongoing fleet investment programme.
