Liebherr LTM 1250-5.1 Becomes Prillaman’s 11th Liebherr Crane
30-Second Takeaway
Prillaman’s Crane & Rigging has taken delivery of a Liebherr LTM 1250-5.1, marking its 11th crane from the manufacturer. Ordered at CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2026, the five axle All Terrain crane was handed over at Liebherr’s Newport News headquarters in Virginia, with three generations of the Prillaman family attending. The model combines a 250 tonne maximum capacity, marketed in the US as a 300 US ton class crane, with a 60 metre telescopic boom and LICCON2 controls. VarioBallast and VarioBase provide flexibility when configuring the crane for lifting work and restricted sites.

Liebherr LTM 1250-5.1
Virginia-based Prillaman’s Crane & Rigging, Inc. has expanded its fleet with a Liebherr LTM 1250-5.1 mobile crane purchased at CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2026. The handover took place at Liebherr’s Newport News headquarters, bringing together three generations of the Prillaman family and representatives of Liebherr’s mobile and crawler crane business.
The delivery continues a relationship that has now seen Prillaman take delivery of 11 Liebherr cranes. The family-owned business provides lifting, storage and heavy hauling services across Virginia, North Carolina and Maryland.
Its customers include government facilities, military bases, shipyards and marinas, alongside industrial and commercial businesses requiring lifting and equipment handling services.
Five Axles and a 60-Metre Telescopic Boom
The LTM 1250-5.1 has a maximum rated capacity of 250 tonnes at a three metre radius. Its telescopic boom extends from 13.1 to 60 metres, while available jib arrangements give the model a maximum hoist height of 108 metres and a maximum working radius of 96 metres.
The model can be configured with up to 88 tonnes of counterweight. Its published carrier specification includes a 400 kW six cylinder Liebherr diesel engine, with standard 10 x 6 x 10 drive and steering.
Liebherr developed the crane to maximise lifting performance within a five axle platform. Available attachments include a multifunctional folding jib and fixed jib configurations, allowing the model to be adapted to different lifting heights and installation requirements.
VarioBallast for Different Site Conditions
Liebherr’s VarioBallast system allows the counterweight radius to be adjusted to suit the available space and lifting requirement. A larger ballast radius increases the counterweight’s effect, supporting higher lifting capacities. A smaller radius allows operation where obstacles or site boundaries restrict the space behind the crane. The adjustment gives operators flexibility when positioning the crane on industrial sites and other locations where surrounding structures influence the setup.
LICCON2 Controls and Variable Outrigger Setup
Prillaman’s new crane is equipped with Liebherr’s LICCON2 control system. The model also incorporates VarioBase, which allows outrigger extensions to be adapted to the space available. The control system determines lifting capacities for the resulting support configuration, helping operators make use of sites where a symmetrical outrigger arrangement may be impractical.
ECOmode and ECOdrive are designed to reduce fuel consumption during crane operation and road travel respectively. Together, these systems address both the lifting work and the journeys between projects.
Three Generations Mark the Handover
The delivery was celebrated by members of the Prillaman family alongside Liebherr’s US crane team. For the company, the purchase adds lifting capability while continuing the development of a business that has served the region since 2007.
Beau Pocock, Mid-Atlantic sales manager at Liebherr USA, Co., said:
“It’s been a real privilege watching Prillaman’s Crane and Rigging grow into the success it is today, and the new Liebherr LTM 1250 5.1 is a great fit for the work they do. Congratulations on the new machine, and we look forward to many more years of success and working together.”
