Dutch crane rental specialist Pfeifer Rentals BV has expanded its bare rental offering with the delivery of six Grove all-terrain cranes, including the GMK 5150XL, GMK5 250XL-1, and GMK 6300L-1. The investment supports the company’s long-term unmanned rental strategy across the Netherlands and Germany, with cranes selected for high lifting capacity, advanced configuration options, and operator-friendly systems.

Strategic Fleet Expansion Supports Bare Rental Growth
Dutch crane rental company Pfeifer Rentals BV has taken delivery of the first three units from a new order of six Grove all-terrain cranes, marking another step in the strategic expansion of the Pfeifer Group’s long-term bare rental operations.
The delivered cranes include the Grove GMK 5150XL, GMK 5250XL-1, and GMK 6300L-1, selected for their lifting capacities of 150 tonnes, 250 tonnes, and 300 tonnes, respectively. All three cranes are already in operation, including a long-term rental project in the Netherlands and another unit currently working for a customer in Germany.
Crane Selection Focused on Capacity and Operator Usability
The Grove models were chosen due to their impressive lifting capacity, operator-friendly systems, and exceptional performance, making them well suited for unmanned and bare rental applications where customers supply their own qualified personnel.
To maximise flexibility and convenience for end users, Pfeifer Rentals specified a wide range of productivity-enhancing options across the fleet, expanding the rental configurations available to customers and increasing ease of operation across different project types.
Advanced Jib Configurations and Extended Reach
Each crane in the delivery package is equipped with a bi-fold swingaway jib featuring hydraulic offset and luffing under load functionality, supporting enhanced performance and flexibility. An optional auxiliary hoist has also been specified to further improve operational versatility.
The Grove GMK 6300L-1 features an 80-metre main boom, which can be extended with a 37-metre jib to achieve an impressive 120-metre tip height, enabling access to a broader range of job sites.
The GMK 5250XL-1 is equipped with an eight-section, 78.5-metre boom, reaching 109 metres with the jib and offering 10 degrees more articulation than comparable cranes in its class.
The GMK 5150XL offers the longest main boom in its class at 68.7 metres and is fitted with a 16-metre hydraulically luffable jib, which can be further extended using boom and jib extensions.
Operator Comfort and Rental-Ready Specifications
All cranes are supplied with multiple hook blocks and a comfort package, including air conditioning, comfort seating, and heating systems, ensuring suitability for extended project durations and varied operating conditions.
The selected configurations reflect Pfeifer Rentals’ focus on delivering high-performance, rental-ready equipment that can be deployed immediately with minimal setup complexity.
Executive Perspective on Bare Rental Strategy
Commenting on the fleet expansion, Gerrit Pfeifer, CEO of Pfeifer Group, said:
“This fleet expansion clearly reflects our growth and adaptability in the bare rental segment. Our customers often have their own qualified personnel and technical resources, allowing them to rent equipment without requiring one of our operators. The new Grove cranes allows us to efficiently address project requirements by providing high-performance equipment that is immediately available for deployment from our facility.”
Supporting Efficiency Through Intuitive Crane Technology
Erik Baas, Sales Manager Mobile Cranes at Manitowoc Crane Group Netherlands BV, highlighted the importance of usability in bare rental applications:
“These powerful Grove all-terrain cranes reflect the importance of efficiency and versatility in today’s rental solutions. For bare rental, delivering an intuitive and easy-to-use crane is vital for the operator, as some potential users might have limited experience of using mobile cranes. This is where features such as MAXbase™, and the boom configurator as part of our intuitive Crane Control System (CCS) stand out, as they simplify planning, setup, and lifting to deliver productivity benefits.”

Frequently Asked Questions
Why are Grove all-terrain cranes well suited to bare rental operations?
Grove all-terrain cranes combine high lifting performance with intuitive control systems, allowing experienced crews to deploy equipment efficiently without OEM operator support. Features such as MAXbase™ and CCS simplify planning and setup, which is critical in bare rental environments.
What advantages do these models offer across multiple capacity classes?
The GMK5150XL, GMK5250XL-1, and GMK6300L-1 cover 150t, 250t, and 300t capacity classes, enabling Pfeifer Rentals to address a broad range of lifting requirements using a consistent platform and operating philosophy.
How do advanced jib configurations improve rental flexibility?
Bi-fold swingaway jibs with hydraulic offset and luffing under load allow cranes to be configured quickly for varying site conditions, reducing downtime and expanding the range of lifts achievable without changing crane class.
Why is operator comfort important in long-term bare rental projects?
In long-duration projects, operator comfort directly impacts productivity and safety. Features such as climate control, ergonomic seating, and heating systems support sustained performance across diverse operating environments.
How does MAXbase™ enhance crane deployment on constrained sites?
MAXbase™ enables asymmetric outrigger configurations, improving load charts when working near obstructions or boundaries and allowing cranes to be deployed effectively in restricted job sites.
Where are these Grove cranes currently operating?
The newly delivered units are already active on long-term rental projects in the Netherlands, with additional units currently operating for customers in Germany.
