Rheinmetall and Nooteboom Partner to Develop Military Heavy Equipment Trailers

30-Second Takeaway

Rheinmetall and Dutch trailer manufacturer Nooteboom Trailers B.V. have signed a cooperation agreement to jointly develop military Heavy Equipment Trailer (HET) transport systems. The partnership will combine Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles tractor units with specialised heavy trailers, creating integrated transport platforms designed to move heavy armoured vehicles and military equipment across challenging terrain.

Rheinmetall and Nooteboom Sign Military Transport Cooperation Agreement

Defence technology company Rheinmetall and heavy trailer manufacturer Nooteboom Trailers B.V. have entered into a cooperation agreement to develop and distribute military heavy equipment transport systems.

The collaboration focuses on the joint development, industrialisation and marketing of heavy transport solutions designed specifically for military logistics operations.

The partnership aims to address growing demand for off-road heavy transport capabilities as European armed forces expand their fleets of modern armoured vehicles.

Growing Demand for Military Heavy Transport Solutions

Across Europe, defence modernisation programmes are driving demand for advanced military logistics equipment.

Several major NATO procurement programmes are currently underway, including acquisitions of:

  • Main battle tanks

  • Infantry fighting vehicles

  • Self-propelled artillery systems

  • Armoured engineering and recovery vehicles

Transporting these large and heavy vehicles requires specialised heavy equipment trailers capable of handling extreme loads and operating in challenging terrain.

Through their partnership, Rheinmetall and Nooteboom aim to strengthen their position within the military mobility sector, while supporting the development of a more resilient European defence industry.

Combining Military Vehicles with Heavy Transport Expertise

The new transport platform will combine Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles (RMMV) tractor units with a purpose-built heavy trailer developed with Nooteboom.

This integrated system will enable Rheinmetall to offer a complete Heavy Equipment Transport (HET) solution, capable of moving heavy tracked and wheeled military vehicles.

The platform is designed to transport equipment such as:

  • Main battle tanks

  • Armoured engineer vehicles

  • Armoured recovery vehicles

  • Other heavy military platforms

The solution aims to improve military mobility, deployment speed and logistics efficiency for armed forces.

Nooteboom Brings Heavy Transport Trailer Expertise

Nooteboom Trailers B.V., based in the Netherlands, is a long-established manufacturer of specialised heavy transport trailers.

The company has decades of experience designing and producing trailers capable of handling payloads of up to 200 tonnes.

Nooteboom is widely recognised among logistics specialists and heavy haulage operators for its expertise in:

  • Special transport trailers

  • Heavy haulage systems

  • Modular transport solutions

Through this partnership, Nooteboom will contribute its engineering knowledge in heavy trailer design, production and maintenance.

Rheinmetall Expands Military Logistics Capabilities

Rheinmetall brings significant expertise in military vehicle manufacturing and defence technology.

Through its Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles division, the company produces military trucks and transport platforms used by armed forces worldwide.

The partnership will combine Rheinmetall’s industrial manufacturing capabilities and global defence market access with Nooteboom’s heavy trailer engineering expertise.

Production of the new military HET trailers is expected to take place in Romania, as part of the industrial cooperation between the companies.
