Franz Bracht Adds Second Liebherr LTM 1750-9.1 to Replace Older 700-Tonne Crane

Updated: Jan 1

30-Second Takeaway

Franz Bracht Kran-Vermietung GmbH has added a second Liebherr LTM 1750-9.1 to its fleet, replacing an older AC 700. Backed by 10 years of proven performance from its first LTM 1750-9.1 and a 50-year partnership with Liebherr, the 800-tonne mobile crane is already fully deployed in wind energy, bridge construction, refinery work, and heavy industrial lifting.

Franz Bracht Kran-Vermietung GmbH has taken delivery of a new Liebherr LTM 1750-9.1, strengthening its heavy-lift capacity and continuing a long-standing commitment to Liebherr mobile crane technology.

It is the second crane of this type within the Bracht Group. The first LTM 1750-9.1 operated by Hofmann Kran-Vermietung, part of the group has been in service for a full decade, delivering consistently high utilization across demanding large-crane applications.

Replacing an Older 700-Tonne Crane

The new LTM 1750-9.1 replaces an AC 700 in the fleet, marking a strategic upgrade driven by operational experience rather than specification alone.

“The LTM 1750-9.1 has proven its abilities within our group for ten years,” explained Dirk Bracht, Managing Director. “So we decided to acquire another crane just like it. It’s a sound decision. The new model will replace an AC 700 in our fleet and will be used across a wide range of projects.”

Wind Energy Drives Demand

The crane will be deployed across:

  • Wind turbine installation and servicing

  • Bridge and concrete support assembly

  • Heavy industrial lifting

  • Refinery maintenance

  • Large-scale infrastructure projects

“Our large cranes are fully booked in the wind sector until the end of 2026,” Bracht noted.

“Thanks to its high load capacity, the LTM 1750-9.1 is ideal for wind power.”

First Job: Main Shaft Replacement at 100 Metres

The new crane went straight to work on its very first assignment at a wind power plant in Lünen, where it replaced a main shaft at a hub height of 100 metres.

To complete the job, the crane was configured in TYV23EN setup with:

  • 49.1-metre telescopic boom

  • 20-metre lattice extensions

  • 42-metre luffing jib

  • 204 tonnes of ballast

This configuration delivered a hoist height of 110 metres. Before repairs could begin, the 50-tonne rotor had to be removed a task completed successfully.

Immediately after Lünen, the crane moved on to Olpe to install wind turbine towers. Its third assignment is already scheduled in a refinery environment.

Fast Setup and Self-Assembly Advantages

One of the defining advantages of the LTM 1750-9.1 is its self-contained transport and setup concept.

The crane:

  • Carries its entire telescopic boom on public roads

  • Installs rear supports using an optional rear support system

  • Requires no auxiliary crane for setup

  • Uses the undercarriage engine for crane setup functions

The superstructure power pack including engine, hydraulics, and integrated ballasting device is transported separately and installed by the crane itself.

“With the hydraulic LIKUFIX quick-change system, this process is particularly simple and fast,” said Bracht. “Our first LTM 1750-9.1 didn’t even have that.”

60 Years of Heavy Lift Heritage

Founded in 1964, Franz Bracht Kran-Vermietung GmbH has grown into one of Europe’s largest crane and heavy-lift specialists. Headquartered in Erwitte, Germany, the company employs around 800 people across 16 locations.

The fleet includes:

  • Approximately 300 mobile cranes

  • A broad selection of lattice boom cranes

  • Roughly 1,400 total vehicle units

Operating under the motto “Lust auf Last” (“Enthusiasm for heavy loads”), Bracht has relied on Liebherr technology since 1975, when it purchased its first LG 1130 lattice boom mobile crane.

“That marked the start of an incredible cooperation from sales and service to construction,” Bracht said.
