30-Second Takeaway

Sicilian contractor Gradito Oleodinamica has expanded its lifting fleet with a Tadano AC 5.250L-2. The 250-tonne crane features an eight-section, 79-metre main boom and extensions reaching 30 metres. Its equipment includes IC-1 Plus, Surround View, a main-boom load-monitoring camera, Eco Mode and an engine start-stop function.

New Tadano Supports Projects Across Sicily

Italian lifting and construction services company Gradito Oleodinamica has taken delivery of a 250-tonne Tadano AC 5.250L-2 all-terrain crane. Based in Gela, southern Sicily, the company will deploy the new machine on oil and gas, industrial and infrastructure projects throughout the island.

Owner and founder Angiolino Gradito said the purchase reflects the company’s continuing investment in lifting equipment capable of serving varied and demanding customer requirements.

“We were particularly impressed by the crane's load charts, main boom length, and the versatility it offers both on the road and at the job site. These are significant advantages for the complex and diverse projects we carry out for our clients.”

Inside the Tadano AC 5.250L-2

Introduced at bauma 2025, the AC 5.250L-2 combines a five-axle carrier with an eight-section telescopic main boom extending to 79 metres. The crane can use lattice extensions ranging from 5.8 to 30 metres, providing additional reach for work above structures or across obstacles. Tadano identifies a maximum boom-and-extension system length of 109 metres. This describes the combined structural length rather than the height of the boom tip above ground.

The manufacturer’s current metric specifications list a maximum tip height of 113 metres, a maximum working radius of 88 metres and a maximum counterweight package of 80 tonnes. These are model limits across different configurations, rather than capabilities available simultaneously or confirmation of the counterweight supplied with Gradito’s crane.

The long main boom gives the company another option for lifts requiring substantial reach without installing an extension. Where additional reach is needed, the model’s self-rigging extensions support setup flexibility.

IC-1 Plus Adapts Capacity to the Actual Setup

The new crane features Tadano’s IC-1 Plus control system.

IC-1 Plus calculates available lifting capacity using the actual outrigger configuration and the superstructure’s slewing angle. This allows the crane to make use of its lifting capability in working areas where obstacles prevent all outriggers from extending fully.

That flexibility is relevant to industrial facilities and infrastructure sites where available setup space can vary around the carrier. Permissible loads remain dependent on the crane’s configuration and the applicable operating conditions.

Camera Systems Support Positioning and Load Visibility

Gradito Oleodinamica ordered its crane with Tadano’s Surround View camera system. The machine also includes a load-monitoring camera on the main boom. Surround View helps the operator assess the area around the crane during positioning and setup, including the space required for outrigger extension and the superstructure’s tail swing. The main-boom camera provides an additional view of the load-handling area, complementing the operator’s direct visibility during lifting operations.

Transport Flexibility Between Jobs

Alongside lifting performance, Gradito highlighted the crane’s versatility during travel between project sites. Tadano states that removing the boom allows the machine’s transport weight to be reduced to 40 tonnes, equivalent to eight tonnes per axle. This configuration provides an option for routes with restrictive weight limits, with the detached boom transported separately.

For a contractor serving multiple sectors across Sicily, the ability to adapt transport arrangements helps match equipment mobilisation to the requirements of individual projects.

Eco Mode and Start-Stop Reduce Idle Operation

The AC 5.250L-2 features Eco Mode and an engine start-stop function intended to reduce fuel consumption and emissions. The systems also help limit unnecessary engine operating hours during idle periods, supporting efficiency when the crane is waiting between lifting movements.

“Our goal is to continually invest in equipment that enables us to work safely, efficiently, and with a high degree of flexibility,”

Gradito said.

“The AC 5.250L-2 delivers the performance and technology we need to keep providing reliable lifting solutions across Sicily.”
