Liebherr LTM 1055-3.3 Joins Schlamann Fleet with Full-Ballast Transport Solution
30-Second Takeaway
Schlamann-Autokrane has taken delivery of a Liebherr LTM 1055-3.3, the second of four new Liebherr mobile cranes ordered by the German company in 2026. The 55 tonne, three axle crane travels with its full 11 tonne counterweight using a ballast trailer, with the combination weighing 41.8 tonnes and keeping axle loads below 9.5 tonnes. A nationwide permanent permit in Germany reduces the need for individual journey authorisations and helps the company respond quickly to customer requirements. The crane is Schlamann’s first equipped with LICCON3 and will primarily support industrial assembly and pipeline construction.

Liebherr LTM 1055-3.3
Schlamann-Autokrane GmbH has added a new Liebherr LTM 1055-3.3 to its fleet as part of an ongoing equipment modernisation programme. The crane travelled from Liebherr’s manufacturing facility in Ehingen, southern Germany, to Schlamann’s base in Nienburg, Lower Saxony. Its lightweight design and chosen transport configuration enabled the journey under a general permanent permit, avoiding complex individual authorisation procedures.
Liebherr describes the model as the lightest three axle All Terrain crane on the market. For Schlamann, the practical attraction is the ability to move a fully equipped lifting solution between jobs with less administrative preparation.
Managing director Torsten Schlamann said:
“Being able to operate without the need for permits makes it easier for us to respond quickly to our customers’ requirements.”
The arrangement operates under an existing permanent permit covering the configuration, rather than removing the requirement for road authorisation altogether.
Full Counterweight on a Ballast Trailer
Schlamann ordered the crane with a ballast trailer, allowing the combination to transport the complete 11 tonne counterweight without a separate ballast delivery vehicle. The crane and trailer have a combined weight of 41.8 tonnes, with axle loads below 9.5 tonnes. According to Liebherr, the low axle loads and compact dimensions enabled the configuration to obtain a general permanent permit in Germany.
This arrangement keeps the full counterweight available for deployment while reducing transport coordination between the depot and construction site. Once on site, the crane lifts the complete counterweight from the trailer onto its chassis in a single lift, ready for installation on the slewing platform.
A 40-Metre Boom for Industrial Lifting
The LTM 1055-3.3 has a maximum lifting capacity of 55 tonnes at a three metre radius and a telescopic boom extending from 9.9 to 40 metres. Liebherr lists a maximum hoist height of 54 metres and a maximum working radius of 46 metres when equipped with the appropriate jib configuration. Total available counterweight is 11 tonnes. At Schlamann, the new crane strengthens the smaller end of a fleet that also includes a Liebherr LTC 1050-3.1 compact crane and an LTF 1060-4.1 truck-mounted telescopic crane.
Torsten Schlamann said:
“The LTM 1055-3.3 complements our crane fleet in the smaller crane segment, alongside the compact LTC 1050-3.1 and the truck-mounted telescopic crane LTF 1060-4.1. We will be able to deploy it very flexibly, with a focus on industrial assembly and pipeline construction.”
First LICCON3 Crane for Schlamann
The delivery introduces Liebherr’s third-generation LICCON control system to Schlamann’s fleet. LICCON3 retains the operating approach of earlier generations while adding greater computing power, increased storage and a faster data bus. Liebherr also prepares LICCON3-equipped cranes for telematics and fleet management applications. The new crane includes RemoteDrive, which allows the operator to manoeuvre the carrier from outside the cab using radio remote control.
Katharina Schlamann said:
“The LTM 1055-3.3 is our first crane to feature the LICCON3 control system. The operators were already impressed during their induction at the factory, both by the new technology and by the new cab and livery. RemoteDrive – manoeuvring the vehicle by remote control – makes life much easier for the drivers.”
Variable Outrigger Support and Road Assistance
The LTM 1055-3.3 incorporates Liebherr’s VarioBase Plus support system. Its variable outrigger positioning helps operators adapt the support arrangement to available space, with lifting capacities determined for the resulting setup. Road assistance equipment includes the Blind Spot Information System, or BSIS, and the Moving Off Information System, or MOIS. These systems support the driver by monitoring areas around the vehicle, helping identify pedestrians and cyclists who may be difficult to see during manoeuvring or when moving away.
