Collett & Sons Invests in Goldhofer THP/SL-L Modules and 350-Tonne Girder Bridge

30 Second Takeaway

Collett & Sons Ltd has strengthened its heavy transport capability with the acquisition of 36 Goldhofer THP/SL-L axle lines and a 350-tonne side girder bridge from Greiner Heavy Engineering. The investment supports future readiness and technical excellence, enabling Collett to undertake increasingly complex heavy-haulage projects across infrastructure, energy and industrial sectors.

Scaling Up for Complex Heavy Transport

As infrastructure, energy transition and industrial projects grow in size and complexity, heavy-haulage specialists are under increasing pressure to deliver higher payloads within tighter regulatory and site constraints. Modular transport systems with high flexibility, low deck heights and strong integration capabilities are becoming essential tools for operators seeking to future-proof their fleets.

Collett & Sons’ latest investment reflects this shift, aligning fleet expansion with long-term strategic positioning in the European heavy haulage market.

Major Fleet Investment and Partnership Launch

With the acquisition of 36 Goldhofer THP/SL-L axle lines and a Greiner Heavy Engineering 350-tonne side girder bridge, Collett & Sons Ltd has made a significant investment in both capacity and capability.

Delivery took place at the end of August during a joint trial setup and overload testing programme at the Goldhofer plant in Memmingen, marking the start of a new partnership between the three heavy transport specialists. The testing phase ensured full system compatibility and operational readiness ahead of deployment.

Headquartered in Halifax, UK, Collett & Sons Ltd is recognised as one of Europe’s leading heavy haulage providers, delivering complex transport solutions across infrastructure, energy and industrial projects. The investment in Goldhofer technology represents both fleet expansion and a strategic evolution.

Flexibility and Precision with THP/SL-L Modules

Goldhofer’s THP/SL family is designed for transporting particularly heavy and voluminous loads. The THP/SL-L modules feature low deadweight and a low deck height, making them well suited for operations involving limited axle loads combined with high bending moments.

The largely closed loading platform provides high torsional rigidity and enhanced operational safety, even under challenging conditions. Like other members of the THP/SL family, the modules offer universal combinability, allowing seamless integration into existing fleets and enabling tailored transport solutions focused on economic efficiency.

“We are proud to have found a premium segment partner in Goldhofer that provides customized and future-proof solutions for our requirements,"

said Sam Collett, Director at Collett & Sons Ltd.

“The THP/SL-L modules offer maximum flexibility and technical precision exactly what is needed for our complex projects.”

High-Capacity Girder Bridge Integration

The 350-tonne side girder bridge supplied by Greiner Heavy Engineering is specifically designed for transporting large and sensitive loads such as transformers or reactors. When combined with the Goldhofer THP/SL-L modules, the system offers a load capacity of up to 350 tonnes and incorporates a modular scissor lift system to enhance flexibility and operational safety.

“A fantastic project that brings together three road haulage heavyweights and demonstrates our technical solution competence,”

said Michael Greiner, Managing Director of Greiner Heavy Engineering.

“The combination of Goldhofer modules and our girder bridge is a striking example of intelligent engineering.”

Strengthening Strategic Alignment

For Goldhofer, the collaboration with Collett & Sons represents more than a single transaction.

“Collett & Sons is one of the major heavy-haulage players on the European market, and we look forward to our future partnership and many more projects,”

said Dennis Leschensky, Director of Sales Europe & North Africa at Goldhofer.

“The decision in favor of our THP/SL family shows that our portfolio perfectly meets the requirements of modern heavy-duty logistics.”

The handover in Memmingen was characterised by open technical exchange and a shared focus on advancing innovative transport solutions. For all parties involved, the project represents a technical milestone and a foundation for long-term collaboration.

First Operations Already Underway

Following delivery and testing, the new Goldhofer THP/SL-L and Greiner girder bridge combination has already entered service, demonstrating its readiness for demanding heavy transport operations.

Collett’s decision to invest in Goldhofer technology signals a clear commitment to quality, progress and partnerships built on technical excellence and trust.
