The 450 tonne, six axle All Terrain crane is the largest crane in the company’s fleet and represents Jandt’s first move into this mobile crane class. The investment will allow Jandt to undertake heavy lifting projects that previously required support from partner companies or the rental of additional high capacity cranes.

Jandt plans to deploy the new flagship across industrial projects, infrastructure construction, renewable energy development and overhead power line construction.
70 Metre Boom and Modular Lattice System
The LTM 1400-6.1 features a six section telescopic boom extending from 14.8 to 70 metres.
Liebherr offers lattice boom configurations ranging from seven to 80.5 metres, providing flexibility for applications requiring additional height or working radius. Depending on its configuration, the crane provides a maximum hoist height of 120 metres and a maximum working radius of 97 metres.
Available configurations include a 45.5 metre luffing lattice jib for a maximum tip height of approximately 120 metres. An 80.5 metre luffing jib configuration can provide working heights approaching 140 metres when measured to the boom tip.
The modular boom system allows Jandt to configure the crane for a range of lifting requirements, from compact industrial projects to high reach infrastructure and energy work.
Y-Guying Increases Lifting Performance
The LTM 1400-6.1 is the smallest model in Liebherr’s current mobile crane range equipped with a Y-shaped telescopic boom guying system. The guying system increases the lateral stability of the telescopic boom and provides higher lifting capacities, particularly when operating with extended boom configurations.
Liebherr designed the system to be self-assembled by the crane, reducing the number of manual assembly procedures and the amount of work performed at height. Safe access routes, work platforms and simplified connection points are incorporated into the setup process.
The crane also uses Liebherr’s LIKUFIX automatic coupling system, which connects the required hydraulic and electrical lines during assembly. The system helps reduce setup time while limiting the number of manual connections required from the crew.
For Jandt, the combination of high lifting capacity, compact six axle dimensions and shorter setup times was central to the purchasing decision.
VarioBallast and VarioBase Support Flexible Setup
The LTM 1400-6.1 can carry up to 140 tonnes of total ballast and is equipped with Liebherr’s hydraulic VarioBallast system.
VarioBallast allows the ballast radius to be adjusted continuously using a hydraulic slewing mechanism. Operators can reduce the radius when working in restricted spaces or increase it when additional lifting capacity is required.
The crane also features VarioBase, which allows each outrigger to be extended to a different length. The crane control system calculates the available lifting capacity based on the precise outrigger configuration.
This flexibility can be particularly valuable on industrial, infrastructure and overhead line projects where roads, buildings, operating equipment or other site restrictions limit the available setup area.
Designed for Mobility and Efficient Operation
The crane is powered by a 455 kW, eight cylinder Liebherr diesel engine and uses a single engine concept. The carrier engine powers both the undercarriage and the crane superstructure, reducing weight and maintenance requirements associated with a second engine.
Standard drive and steering is configured as 12 x 6 x 12, with 12 x 8 x 12 available as an option. The crane has a maximum road speed of 85 kilometres per hour.
Additional technology includes ECOmode, which calculates the required engine speed during crane operation to reduce fuel consumption and noise, and ECOdrive, which lowers engine speed while travelling.
The LTM 1400-6.1 is also equipped with WindSpeed load charts covering different maximum wind speeds up to 15.6 metres per second. Driver assistance systems monitor areas around the crane and provide warnings intended to improve road safety, particularly around pedestrians and cyclists.
The crane is approved for operation with hydrotreated vegetable oil, providing an alternative to conventional diesel where the fuel is available.
New Flagship Completes First Assignment
The LTM 1400-6.1 has already completed its first project for Jandt, lifting a 60 tonne transformer station in Bad Laer, Germany.
The assignment reflects the type of infrastructure and energy sector work for which Jandt acquired the crane. Its larger capacity will allow the company to perform more heavy lifting projects directly while reducing its reliance on externally sourced equipment.
Before the new crane arrived, some of the largest machines in Jandt’s fleet included two Liebherr LTM 1250-5.1 All Terrain cranes and two Liebherr MK 140-5.1 mobile construction cranes.
Longstanding Relationship With Liebherr
Jandt selected the LTM 1400-6.1 based on its lifting performance, compact dimensions, setup system and the company’s established relationship with Liebherr. The crane rental company has invested in multiple Liebherr models across its mobile and mobile construction crane fleets.
Jandt currently operates 18 mobile cranes and four loader cranes, according to Liebherr. Its mobile construction crane fleet includes two MK 140-5.1 units and two MK 88-4.1 cranes.
