Krandienst Schulz puts new Liebherr LTM 1400-6.1 to work in Hamburg
30 Second Takeaway
Krandienst Schulz used its new 400-tonne Liebherr LTM 1400-6.1 for its first job in Hamburg city centre, replacing heat exchangers weighing up to 3.5 tonnes at the Fleethof building. Working with a luffing jib at a reach of 55 metres, the crane lifted the equipment from a restricted site where only two traffic lanes could be closed. The six-axle LTM 1400-6.1 has a 70-metre telescopic boom and joined a group of six new Liebherr mobile cranes added to Schulz’s fleet during 2026.
First job tests the crane in central Hamburg
The crane’s maiden operation took place in early October at Fleethof by Stadthausbrücke, where it was used to replace heat exchangers in the building’s air-conditioning system. The units weighed up to 3.5 tonnes and were concealed within the building’s substructure.
The team had to rotate the suspended heat exchangers and carefully draw them out of position. A high building edge required the crane to work at a 55-metre reach, while the city-centre location left limited space for setting up and stabilising the crane. Only two lanes were closed, allowing traffic to continue moving in parts of the area.
LTM 1400-6.1 joins fleet expansion
The 400-tonne LTM 1400-6.1 is one of six Liebherr mobile cranes Krandienst Schulz is adding to its fleet in 2026. The investment also includes an LTM 1150-5.4.
The six-axle LTM 1400-6.1 has a 70-metre telescopic boom. Liebherr describes the model as its most powerful six-axle mobile crane, with a maximum lifting capacity of 400 tonnes. Its first Hamburg assignment put the new crane to work on a precision lift requiring reach, careful load handling and a compact site arrangement.
Standardised fleet supports flexible operations
Krandienst Schulz operates an all-Liebherr mobile crane fleet. Owner and Managing Director Günter Sichward said using a standardised fleet helps the company schedule work, deploy operators across different machines and train its crane crews.
The company also uses digital order processing and Liebherr’s MyLiebherr customer portal. Sichward pointed to service and spare-parts availability as important factors in keeping cranes working and limiting downtime.
