Liebherr LTM 1300-6.4 Takes Schweri into the 300-Tonne Class
30-Second Takeaway
Schweri Autokranbetriebe has taken delivery of a Liebherr LTM 1300-6.4, its first Liebherr mobile crane and the new flagship of its fleet. The 300 tonne, six axle All Terrain crane replaces a 250 tonne model and brings a 90 metre telescopic boom to the Krefeld-based company’s lifting operation. Equipped with LICCON3, variable outrigger support and adjustable counterweight radius, it will serve wind turbine, tower crane and precast concrete projects, primarily in North Rhine-Westphalia. Its first assignment began immediately after delivery, installing precast concrete elements for a residential development in Dormagen.

Liebherr LTM 1300-6.4
Schweri Autokranbetriebe GmbH & Co. KG has entered the 300 tonne crane class with the addition of a Liebherr LTM 1300-6.4. The delivery marks the company’s first Liebherr mobile crane purchase. It increases the maximum capacity of Schweri’s fleet and supports its response to larger components and more demanding lifting requirements in construction, industry and wind energy.
Managing partner Leonhard Zerni said:
“For us, the LTM 1300-6.4 is the logical addition to our fleet. With its lifting capacity and 90-metre telescopic boom, we can now handle jobs that were previously out of our reach. Ultimately, it was the complete package that won us over: it is the right crane to replace a 250-tonne model, its technical features and the comprehensive support provided by Liebherr.”
A 90-Metre Boom Expands the Working Range
The LTM 1300-6.4 combines a maximum rated lifting capacity of 300 tonnes with a 90 metre telescopic boom on a six axle carrier. Liebherr designed the model for applications requiring substantial lifting height and performance at steep boom angles. Tower crane assembly, antenna installation and wind turbine maintenance are among the applications identified by the manufacturer.
For Schweri, the long main boom expands the range of jobs it can undertake with its own equipment. Planned applications include wind turbine repowering, tower crane erection and dismantling, and precast concrete installation. The company’s principal operating territory is North Rhine-Westphalia, where the new crane will support both construction and industrial customers.
Flexible Setup Where Space Is Limited
Variable outrigger support and counterweight positioning were important factors in Schweri’s selection. The crane’s VarioBase system allows the support arrangement to be adapted to available space, with lifting capacities determined for the resulting configuration. This is useful where buildings, site boundaries or other obstacles prevent a conventional symmetrical outrigger setup.
VarioBallast adjusts the counterweight radius. A larger radius increases the counterweight’s effect, while a smaller radius helps accommodate sites with limited space behind the superstructure. Liebherr identifies the mechanically adjustable system as a means of balancing lifting performance, ballast requirements and site access.
Together, these systems give the lifting team more options when positioning the crane around existing structures.
LICCON3 and Operator Involvement
Schweri’s new flagship is equipped with Liebherr’s third-generation LICCON3 control system.
The company involved long-serving crane operator Martin Schönwaßer in the selection process. He is now operating the LTM 1300-6.4 on its first assignment. His participation brought practical operating experience into the investment decision, including consideration of the main boom and assistance systems.
Schönwaßer said:
“It’s something special to take charge of the flagship of our own fleet. The long telescopic boom and the modern assistance systems, in particular, help us carry out even demanding lifting operations efficiently and flexibly.”
Straight to Work in Dormagen
The crane’s first job had been secured before delivery. Immediately after joining the fleet, the LTM 1300-6.4 travelled to a residential construction project in Dormagen, where Schweri is installing precast concrete elements.
The assignment puts the new crane to work in one of the company’s intended growth areas. Precast installation combines component weight, reach and positioning requirements, making crane selection and site setup central to the lifting operation.
