Richter Kran- und Schwerlast GmbH has added a Liebherr LTM 1100-5.3 to its fleet, marking the company’s twelfth mobile crane and the first to feature the new LICCON3 crane control system. The five-axle crane combines a 62-meter telescopic boom with high road mobility, allowing operation with axle loads of 12 tonnes or as low as 9 tonnes. The crane entered service immediately, supporting tower crane assembly and grid infrastructure projects in Germany.

Fleet Expansion and Technology Upgrade
With the delivery of a Liebherr LTM 1100-5.3, Richter Kran- und Schwerlast GmbH has expanded its Liebherr fleet to twelve mobile cranes while simultaneously introducing the LICCON3 crane control system into daily operations.
The five-axle crane features a 62-meter telescopic boom, two meters longer than the LTM 1110-5.2, making it the longest boom in Liebherr’s five-axle class. Its design supports high mobility, allowing the crane to carry up to 16.9 tonnes of ballast on public roads with a 12-tonne axle load. By removing ballast, the crane can travel with an axle load of just 9 tonnes, offering significant advantages for permits, route planning, and international deployment.
“The LTM 1100-5.3 is a modern, innovative crane representing the latest technical generation. As we’re thinking ahead and aiming to position ourselves for the future, it ideally complements our fleet,” says Matthias Richter, owner of the crane and heavy haulage company of the same name. The LTM 1100-5.3 features a powerful 62-meter telescopic boom, making it two meters longer than the next most powerful Liebherr five-axle crane, the LTM 1110-5.2. The crane can carry up to 16.9 tonnes of ballast on public roads with a twelve-tonne axle load. By simply removing the ballast, it can travel with an axle load of just nine tonnes – this makes it economically mobile worldwide and offers significant advantages in terms of approvals and route permits. “For us, the new LTM is an excellent taxi crane. Thanks to its long telescopic boom, low weight, and width of just 2.55 meters, we can use it flexibly.”

Immediate Deployment on Infrastructure Projects
Just days after delivery, the LTM 1100-5.3 was put to work assembling a tower crane in Leipzig. It then moved directly to its next assignment near Halberstadt, where it was used to replace electricity pylons for grid operator 50Hertz on behalf of LTB Leitungsbau GmbH.
The project followed preparatory work carried out by two loading cranes and a semi-trailer truck, all operated by Richter. According to Matthias Richter, managing the project end-to-end highlights the company’s strength as a combined crane and heavy haulage provider.
“As the first crane with the new control system, the 100-tonne crane fits perfectly into our fleet,” explains Matthias Richter, whose company is active throughout Europe, from Sweden to Austria, focusing on infrastructure construction sites and network expansion projects.
“We managed the entire project from start to finish. Our customers value the all-round service that we provide as a crane and heavy haulage company. We benefit from Liebherr’s reliable, fast service and approachable customer support, which enables us to ensure that our fleet is always operational,” says Matthias Richter.

LICCON3 Control Enters the Fleet
The LTM 1100-5.3 is the second Liebherr mobile crane model to feature the LICCON3 control system. For Richter, the introduction of LICCON3 aligns with the company’s strategy of maintaining a standardized, future-ready fleet.
Richter operates Liebherr cranes ranging from three-axle to nine-axle models, all sourced from Liebherr’s Ehingen plant. The addition of the LTM 1100-5.3 closes a remaining gap in the fleet and maintains consistency for operators through standardized controls across machines.

About Liebherr Mobile Cranes
Liebherr Mobile Cranes are developed and manufactured by the Liebherr Group at its dedicated crane facilities, with a strong focus on all-terrain and mobile crane applications used in construction, infrastructure, energy, and industrial projects worldwide. Liebherr’s mobile crane lineup is known for combining high lifting performance, long telescopic boom designs, and exceptional road mobility across multiple axle classes.
A key characteristic of Liebherr mobile cranes is their emphasis on transport efficiency and global mobility. Designs such as the five-axle LTM series allow cranes to travel with reduced axle loads, making them suitable for international operation and simplifying route approvals and permitting. Technologies including VarioBase®, VarioBallast®, and standardized operator interfaces are intended to improve setup flexibility, site access, and consistency for operators working across different crane models.
With the introduction of the LICCON3 crane control system, Liebherr is advancing toward a new generation of mobile cranes that are prepared for digital fleet management, telematics integration, and future automation features, while maintaining a familiar operating environment for crane drivers. Models like the LTM 1100-5.3 reflect this approach by combining long reach, efficient transport configurations, and modern control architecture in a mid-class all-terrain crane.
