30-Second Takeaway

Lee Lifting has taken delivery of a 100 tonne Liebherr LTM 1100-5.3, becoming the third UK company to receive the model, according to the delivery announcement. The five axle All Terrain crane combines a 62 metre telescopic boom with LICCON3 controls, variable outrigger support and adjustable counterweight radius. It can carry up to 16.9 tonnes of counterweight within 12 tonne axle loads and has a carrier width of 2.55 metres. Ordered with an auxiliary hoist, the crane expands the Heathrow-based company’s equipment offering for varied lifting work across London and the surrounding region.

Liebherr LTM 1100-5.3

UK crane rental company Lee Lifting has added a Liebherr LTM 1100-5.3 to its fleet.

The handover took place at Liebherr’s manufacturing facility in Ehingen, Germany, with Lee Lifting representatives Jody Whitmore and Tim Williams attending alongside the manufacturer’s team.

Lee Lifting selected the crane for its combination of lifting capability, road transport flexibility and access dimensions. The company also specified the optional auxiliary hoist, adding a second hoisting arrangement for applications that require it.

A 62-Metre Main Boom and Folding Extension

The LTM 1100-5.3 has a 62 metre telescopic main boom and a maximum rated capacity of 100 tonnes at a three metre radius. A 9.5 to 16 metre bi-fold swingaway extension, with offset positions up to 40 degrees, expands the available working configurations.

Liebherr’s published specification lists a maximum hoist height of 76 metres with the appropriate equipment configuration. The boom and extension give Lee Lifting options for work requiring additional height or clearance around structures.

Counterweight Transport Supports Flexible Deployment

The crane can travel with up to 16.9 tonnes of counterweight while maintaining 12 tonne axle loads. Liebherr lists total available ballast for the model at 22.5 tonnes, meaning approximately three-quarters of its maximum counterweight can be carried in that road configuration.

Carrying a substantial proportion of the ballast on the crane can reduce separate transport requirements for jobs that do not need the full counterweight package.

Its 2.55 metre carrier width was another attraction for Lee Lifting, supporting access through narrower routes and site entrances.

LICCON3, VarioBase and VarioBallast

The crane is equipped with LICCON3, Liebherr’s third-generation crane control system, and a Stage V diesel engine. VarioBase allows individual outriggers to be extended to different lengths, with lifting capacities calculated for the resulting support arrangement. VarioBallast provides two counterweight radius settings. The smaller radius accommodates restricted space behind the crane, while the larger setting increases the counterweight’s effect when additional capacity is needed. These features give the lifting team more options when configuring the crane around obstacles and available space.

Lee Lifting director Jody Whitmore said:

“We are always looking for something different in a crane to service our many varied applications, and we were drawn to the LTM 1100-5.3 for its new operating system, easy ballasting options, the ability to achieve low axle loads and reduced carrier width for easier site access.”
