Sarens Supports Largest Shutdown Campaign at Hyosung Chemicals Plants in Vietnam

30 Second Takeaway

Sarens has played a key role in the largest shutdown campaign ever undertaken at Hyosung Chemicals plants in Vietnam, delivering complex heavy lifting solutions under demanding industrial conditions. The project involved the deployment of multiple high-capacity crawler cranes to execute critical lifts, including 340-tonne heat exchangers installed at heights of up to 44 metres.

Heavy Lifting in Large-Scale Industrial Shutdowns

Shutdown and turnaround campaigns at major chemical and petrochemical facilities are among the most demanding operations in industrial construction. These projects require precise planning, strict safety controls and the ability to execute high-risk lifts within limited timeframes to minimise production downtime.

Heavy lifting specialists supporting such campaigns must combine advanced equipment capability with disciplined execution and close coordination with plant operators and contractors.

Record-Scale Shutdown at Hyosung Chemicals

The shutdown campaign at Hyosung Chemicals plants in Vietnam represented the largest operation of its kind ever undertaken at the site. The scope and complexity of the works exceeded previous campaigns, including a comparable shutdown carried out in 2023.

Sarens was selected to support the operation based on its experience in complex industrial environments and its ability to mobilise high-capacity lifting equipment for critical path activities.

High-Capacity Crane Deployment

To meet the project’s requirements, Sarens deployed a selection of high-performance crawler cranes from its global fleet, including:

  • XCMG XLC 22000 (1,700 tonnes)

  • Demag CC6800 (1,250 tonnes)

  • Sany SCC4500A (450 tonnes)

  • Demag CC1500 (300 tonnes)

These cranes were used to perform some of the most challenging lifts of the shutdown, including the installation of heat exchangers weighing up to 340 tonnes at heights of 44 metres.

The combination of lifting capacity, reach and stability was critical to safely executing the lifts within the confined and active plant environment.

Execution and Project Management

The operation required detailed planning and precise execution to align with the client’s ambitious shutdown schedule. Under the direction of Project Manager Huynh Nhat Truong, Sarens coordinated crane mobilisation, assembly, lifting operations and demobilisation while maintaining strict safety and quality standards.

Compared to the 2023 shutdown campaign at the same facility, the 2025 operation was significantly larger in both scale and complexity. Despite these challenges, Sarens completed its scope safely and efficiently, meeting the project’s objectives.

Reinforcing Heavy Industrial Capability

The successful delivery of the shutdown campaign further reinforces Sarens’ position as a trusted heavy lifting partner for large-scale industrial operations. By combining high-capacity equipment with experienced project teams, the company continues to support complex shutdowns, turnarounds and upgrades across the global chemical and energy sectors.
