Liebherr Launches International “Game of Cranes” Competition

Updated: Dec 29, 2025

30-Second Takeaway

Liebherr has launched the international “Game of Cranes” competition, inviting mobile crane operators worldwide to showcase their skills in safety, dexterity, and technical understanding. The competition will culminate in a global final in Ehingen, Germany, with company prizes awarded to the top three performers.

Game of Cranes: Liebherr is looking for the world's best mobile crane operator

Liebherr, the mobile crane manufacturer headquartered in Ehingen, Germany, has announced the launch of its international “Game of Cranes” competition, designed to spotlight the skill, responsibility, and technical expertise required of professional mobile crane operators.

The competition invites crane operators from Liebherr customer companies worldwide to compete for the title of best mobile crane operator, testing their abilities across three core disciplines: safety, dexterity, and technical understanding.

Recognising a Critical Industry Role

“The job of a crane operator requires technical understanding, skill, and a strong sense of responsibility,” said Michaela Gogeißl from Liebherr Customer Training.
“With the ‘Game of Cranes,’ we not only want to honour the skills of crane operators, but also raise awareness of the profession. We look forward to numerous participants and an exciting competition.”

By focusing on both practical skill and technical knowledge, Liebherr aims to highlight the professionalism behind mobile crane operations—an area often underrepresented despite its critical safety implications.

How the Game of Cranes Works

Registration

Between 7 April and 18 May 2025, Liebherr mobile crane customers worldwide can nominate one crane operator to participate. Registration is completed via a QR code linking to the Liebherr website.

Voting

Registered crane operators then promote their participation on social media with a photo or video demonstrating their crane skills. Entries may feature any Liebherr mobile crane from 2-axle units to 1,200-tonne machines.

Public voting runs through July 2025, with vote counts contributing to the selection process.

Qualification

Progression to the preliminary round is based on:

  • The number of public votes received

  • Technical assessment by Liebherr mobile crane experts

Regional Preliminary Rounds

Successful candidates advance to regional preliminary rounds in September 2025. Depending on geographic location, operators will travel to one of five regional hubs:

  • Newport News (USA)

  • Guaratinguetá (Brazil)

  • Adelaide (Australia)

  • Azuqueca de Henares (Spain)

  • Dammam (Saudi Arabia)

Here, operators will compete in structured challenges across safety, dexterity, and technical knowledge.

Global Final in Ehingen

The five top-performing operators from the preliminary rounds will be invited to Ehingen, Germany, in November 2025 for the final competition.

The overall winner will earn the title of “Game of Cranes” Champion, with their employer recognised as having the world’s best mobile crane operator.

Prizes

The top three competitors will receive company vouchers redeemable in the Liebherr shop:

  • 1st place: €2,500

  • 2nd place: €1,250

  • 3rd place: €500

Vouchers are unlimited in time and may be used across multiple purchases.

Crane Hub Perspective

Crane Hub Global will continue to monitor the “Game of Cranes” competition as it progresses through the qualification and regional stages, with a particular focus on how operator skill, safety awareness, and technical competence are showcased across different global markets.

Competitions such as this underline a growing industry emphasis on operator professionalism, safety culture, and technical mastery factors that increasingly define performance standards in the mobile crane sector.
