Baldini Group Expands Fleet with Liebherr LTM 1110-5.2, Delivering Italy’s Second 110-Tonne Crane with LICCON3

Updated: Jan 12

30 Second Takeaway

Italian crane company Baldini Group has expanded its fleet with a Liebherr LTM 1110-5.2 mobile crane, marking the second 110-tonne mobile crane with LICCON3 control delivered in Italy. The five-axle all-terrain crane strengthens Baldini’s lifting capabilities with increased performance, autonomous road travel with ballast, and advanced crane control technology.

Baldini Group Takes Delivery of Liebherr LTM 1110-5.2

The Baldini Group, headquartered in Faenza, northern Italy, has taken delivery of a new Liebherr LTM 1110-5.2 mobile crane, further expanding its modern all-terrain crane fleet.

The decision to invest in the 110-tonne Liebherr mobile crane was driven by the need for a machine in the 100–130-tonne capacity range, capable of serving a wide variety of applications across multiple sectors.

Key Selection Criteria for the 110-Tonne Crane

Explaining the decision, Barbara Baldini, CEO of the Baldini Group, outlined three decisive factors:

“Basically, we needed a machine with a capacity of between 100 and 130 tonnes for our existing fleet. Three aspects were decisive for our choice. Firstly, the crane needed to be able to carry its ballast during on-road driving without the need for an additional transport vehicle. Secondly, VarioBase® Plus increases crane performance and enables a larger working radius. Thirdly, the robustness of the 5-axle chassis played an important role, as the crane is to be used in various sectors – including construction for the assembly of prefabricated parts.”

The ability to travel autonomously with ballast allows the LTM 1110-5.2 to operate with the flexibility typically associated with lower-tonnage cranes, while delivering significantly higher lifting capacity.

Proven Liebherr Quality and Performance

Barbara Baldini also highlighted the long-standing confidence in the Liebherr brand:

Liebherr has always stood for reliability, precision and quality. A few years ago, we invested in a 100-tonne crane that delivers outstanding performance. After this extremely positive experience, we decided to buy the LTM 1110-5.2 from Liebherr as well.”

Operator Feedback: Stability, Comfort, and Precision

Crane driver Roberto Baldini, who tested the new machine immediately after delivery, praised the crane’s handling and operating characteristics:

“The new 110-tonne crane is very versatile. The design of the LICCON3 work screen is practical and operation is quick and easy. From a technical point of view, the crane is extremely stable and, at the same time, sensitive and quiet when driving on the construction site.”

He added:

VarioBase® Plus improves lifting operations, the driver’s cab is very comfortable, as is on-road driving,” also highlighting the round-the-clock availability and high-quality customer service.

From LTM 1110-5.1 to LTM 1110-5.2: Three Key Innovations

The evolution from the LTM 1110-5.1 to the LTM 1110-5.2 reflects three major technological upgrades:

  1. LICCON3 crane control system

  2. New driver’s cab design

  3. ZF TraXon DynamicPerform gearbox

First unveiled at Bauma 2019, the five-axle all-terrain crane integrates Liebherr’s latest innovations, including the oil-cooled multi-disk clutch within the ZF TraXon DynamicPerform transmission, enabling wear-free starting and manoeuvring.

These features combine existing strengths with new advancements to deliver:

  • Enhanced safety

  • Increased operator comfort

  • Improved efficiency and drivability

The crane is also prepared for telematics and fleet management systems, positioning it as a future-ready solution within Liebherr’s all-terrain crane portfolio.
