Updated: Jan 12

30 Second Takeaway

Stützle-Späth GmbH & Co KG, based in Schelklingen, Upper Swabia, has purchased its first mobile crane, a Liebherr LTM 1110-5.2, marking a major milestone in the company’s 50-year history. The 110-tonne mobile crane, one of the first equipped with LICCON3 control, expands Stützle-Späth’s service portfolio and enables highly flexible, low-permit lifting operations with short set-up times.

Stützle-Späth Purchases First Mobile Crane

Stützle-Späth GmbH & Co KG has expanded its fleet with the purchase of its first mobile crane, a Liebherr LTM 1110-5.2. The crane now operates alongside the company’s extensive range of work platforms, forklifts, loader cranes, and road construction equipment.

The 110-tonne mobile crane is among the first Liebherr machines delivered with the new LICCON3 crane control system, redesigned operator cabs, and updated paintwork.

A Strategic Step in the Company’s 50-Year History

Founded more than 50 years ago, Stützle-Späth employs around 65 people and operates across multiple sectors, including traffic safety, mobile road construction, lifting technology, and material handling.

The decision to invest in a mobile crane marks a strategic expansion of services.

“We made the decision to buy our first mobile crane in order to offer our customers a comprehensive service. The ultra-modern Liebherr LTM 1110-5.2 marks the beginning of a new era for our company,”explains Torsten Späth, Managing Director of Stützle-Späth.

Advanced Performance and LICCON3 Technology

The Liebherr LTM 1110-5.2 was selected for its combination of performance, innovation, and operational efficiency.

Key features include:

  • 60-metre telescopic boom

  • LICCON3 crane control system

  • Hydraulically adjustable double folding jib

  • Telescopic boom extension

  • VarioBase®Plus variable support base for increased lifting capacity

  • AutoBallast system for automatic ballasting at the push of a button

  • ZF TraXon transmission with DynamicPerform clutch module for wear-free manoeuvring

Together, these technologies enable precise, efficient, and safe lifting operations across a wide range of applications.

High Mobility and Short Set-Up Times

A major advantage of the LTM 1110-5.2 is its high mobility and ability to operate with minimal ballast.

The crane’s lightweight construction and ballast quick-change system allow axle loads of less than ten tonnes to be achieved in a very short time.

“The new mobile crane offers a wide range of applications without the need for complex individual driving permits and with minimal set-up times,”says Späth.“Its variable support base, new control system, and impressive load capacity values, even with minimal ballast, convinced us.”

A Long-Standing Connection to Liebherr

In addition to the technical advantages, proximity and personal history played an important role in the purchase decision.

“Our company is only ten kilometres away from Liebherr’s crane production site. Service and spare parts supply are therefore very close to us. I actually did my apprenticeship at Liebherr. It’s now a special feeling to buy a crane from my former training company,”Späth adds.
