Ainscough Proud to Support DIY SOS in Life-Changing Home Transformation

30 Second Takeaway

Ainscough Crane Hire has proudly supported the BBC’s DIY SOS programme in a life-changing home transformation project in Freckleton, Lancashire. Providing specialist lifting and transport equipment including a Liebherr 50-tonne Hybrid City Crane and a FASSI F820 HIAB Ainscough helped deliver a safe, accessible home for Daniel, a young disabled adult returning home after a long hospital stay.

Supporting a Remarkable DIY SOS Project in Lancashire

Ainscough Crane Hire was honoured to support the BBC’s much-loved programme DIY SOS during a major home renovation project in Freckleton, Lancashire.

The project focused on transforming the family home of Daniel, a young disabled adult with complex needs, to allow him to safely return home after an extended period in hospital.

Led by Nick Knowles, designer Gaby Blackman, and the dedicated DIY SOS production team at Southshore, the build brought together a vast network of volunteers, tradespeople, and local businesses from across the North West.

Specialist Lifting and Transport Support from Ainscough

As part of its contribution, Ainscough Crane Hire supplied key equipment critical to the success of the build, including:

  • A brand-new FASSI UK Ltd F820 HIAB for specialist transport operations

  • A Liebherr 50-tonne Hybrid City Crane, used extensively to support the safe installation of roof trusses

The hybrid city crane provided a compact, efficient, and low-emission lifting solution, well suited to the residential environment and tight working conditions on site.

End-to-End Logistics and On-Site Collaboration

Ainscough’s involvement began with the collection and delivery of essential equipment from London to the Freckleton site.

Throughout the project, Ainscough’s team worked closely with:

  • Site managers

  • Tradespeople

  • DIY SOS volunteers

This close collaboration ensured all heavy lifting and transport requirements were delivered safely, efficiently, and on schedule, allowing the wider team to focus on completing the transformation within the programme’s demanding timeframe.

Ainscough Perspective

Joe Embery, Transport Operations Planner at Ainscough, said:

“It has been an absolute privilege to play a part in this incredible transformation. The DIY SOS team, alongside the many selfless tradespeople and volunteers, created something truly special for Daniel and his family. We’re proud that our cranes and transport services could help bring the vision to life and contribute to such a meaningful cause.”

Episode to Air on BBC One

The completed project will feature in an upcoming episode of DIY SOS, airing on BBC One later this year.

The programme will showcase the extraordinary teamwork, generosity, and compassion behind the build, highlighting how industry expertise and community spirit combined to create a safe, accessible, and welcoming home for Daniel.
