APM Terminals Yucatán has placed an order for two Konecranes Gottwald ESP.7 Mobile Harbor Cranes as part of a long-term infrastructure investment to modernize and expand capacity at Puerto Progreso, Mexico. The cranes, booked in Q4 2025 and scheduled for delivery in September 2026, will support container handling growth while aligning with the terminal’s decarbonization strategy.

Supporting Port Modernization in Mexico
Terminal de Contenedores de Yucatán, S.A. de C.V. (APM Terminals Yucatán) has ordered two Konecranes Gottwald ESP.7 Mobile Harbor Cranes to support the modernization and capacity expansion of Puerto Progreso, Mexico. The order was booked in the fourth quarter of 2025, with delivery scheduled for the end of September 2026.
Puerto Progreso serves as the main maritime gateway to the Yucatán Peninsula, providing a critical connection between the region’s textile and manufacturing industries and the United States. As the port’s only dedicated container terminal, APM Terminals Yucatán plays a central role in facilitating foreign trade across southern Mexico.
Long-Term Infrastructure Investment
Expanding Capacity at a Strategic Gateway
The new crane investment forms part of APM Terminals Yucatán’s broader long-term infrastructure development program aimed at increasing throughput capacity and operational efficiency at Puerto Progreso.
Victor Peter Konen, Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer of APM Terminals Yucatán, highlighted the strategic importance of the order.
“Our terminal is advancing through a significant long-term investment program, and these two cranes represent important milestones along that path,” he said, referencing the terminal’s positive experience with earlier-generation Konecranes Gottwald mobile harbor cranes.
Crane Configuration and Technical Specifications
Tailored ESP.7 Design for Local Conditions
Each Konecranes Gottwald ESP.7 unit has been customized to meet local operational requirements at Puerto Progreso. The cranes are equipped with a 10-axle chassis, replacing the standard 7-axle configuration, to better distribute loads and support quay-side operations.
In addition, the cranes feature oversized propping pads measuring 2 × 2.0 m × 5.4 m, designed to address limited quay load-bearing capacity while maintaining full lifting performance.
Supporting Decarbonization Goals
Fully Electric Operation Capability
To align with APM Terminals Yucatán’s decarbonization strategy, the ESP.7 cranes are equipped with external power supply capability via a 150-metre 13.2 kV cable reel. This configuration allows the cranes to operate fully electrically, enabling zero tailpipe emissions during operation.
The investment supports both operational efficiency and sustainability objectives as the terminal continues to modernize its equipment fleet.
