Davis Crane Service Takes Delivery of the First Tadano GT-1200XL-2 Truck Crane

Updated: Jan 20

30 Second Takeaway

Davis Crane Service, a trusted name in Texas lifting for more than 60 years, has purchased the first Tadano GT-1200XL-2 truck crane. Introduced at ConExpo earlier this year, the 120‑tonne class crane is a strategic addition to Davis’ taxi crane fleet, offering long reach, roadability and the reliability the company has come to expect from Tadano equipment.

New Tadano GT-1200XL-2 for Davis Crane Service

A First for Texas Taxi Crane Operations

Davis Crane Service has marked another milestone in its long history by becoming the first company to purchase Tadano’s new GT-1200XL-2 truck crane. The crane was supplied through Tadano’s Texas distributor, Scott Macon Equipment.

The GT-1200XL-2 was officially introduced by Tadano at ConExpo earlier this year and is designed to meet the demands of high-utilisation taxi crane operations, particularly in the competitive 110–120‑tonne lifting class.

Built for the 120‑Tonne Market

A Strategic Fleet Addition

Davis Crane Service has served contractors and businesses across Texas for more than six decades, with company president Dennis Davis personally bringing over 50 years of experience to the operation.

The decision to invest in the GT-1200XL-2 reflects both market demand and long-standing trust in Tadano equipment.

Wes Dowd, Director of Operations & Equipment at Davis Crane Service, said:

“We wanted the first GT-1200XL-2 because it fits our taxi crane business. The 110–120‑ton market is a big one for us and we trust Tadano cranes. Our driver-operator drove the new truck crane here and said it was just like a Cadillac.”

Performance, Comfort and Reliability

Designed for Daily Taxi Crane Work

The Tadano GT-1200XL-2 features:

  • A five-section 167.3‑foot (51 m) main boom

  • A 33.1 ft / 58.1 ft bi-fold jib

  • Maximum road speed of 65 mph, supporting efficient mobilisation

Dowd added that reliability was a decisive factor:

“The Tadanos we have in the fleet currently have been just bulletproof. They are just great machines, and you hear that from everybody. With the Tadano reputation and Scott Macon’s great service, we’re not really worried about any issues with a new crane.”

Dealer Support a Key Factor

Confidence Backed by Local Service

Dowd also highlighted the importance of dealer support in the purchasing decision, noting the long-standing relationship with Scott Macon Equipment.

“Whatever they can do to help us, they’re always there to help,” he said.

This combination of manufacturer reliability and local dealer support gives Davis confidence as the new crane enters service within its established taxi crane operation.
