Felbermayr to Deploy Electric Trucks for Regional Transport Operations

30 Second Takeaway

Felbermayr has added six electric MAN TGS 20.449 trucks to its fleet, deploying them on fixed regional routes around Wels, including daily hospital logistics, demonstrating the practical use of electric commercial vehicles in short-haul transport.

Felbermayr Electric MAN TGS 20.449 Trucks

Felbermayr is expanding its fleet to include electric commercial vehicles, with six MAN TGS 20.449 electric trucks officially entering service from the beginning of February.

The new additions consist of:

  • One MAN TGS 20.449 equipped with a box body and tail lift

  • Five MAN TGS 20.449 units fitted with tarpaulin body and tail lift

The trucks will be used for general cargo transport on regional routes in the vicinity of Wels, Austria.

Daily Hospital Logistics Route

One of the fixed applications for the electric trucks is a daily hospital transport operation.

The route involves:

  • Transporting clean laundry from a facility in Wels to Braunau Hospital

  • Returning used laundry back to Wels

  • Completing the route twice per day

Felbermayr said this predictable, high-frequency route profile makes the operation particularly well suited to battery-electric trucks, offering reliable performance while eliminating local exhaust emissions.

Charging Strategy and Operational Efficiency

All six electric trucks are charged at Felbermayr’s own charging stations located at the company’s premises.

This setup simplifies scheduling, as:

  • Vehicles are plugged in at the end of each shift

  • Trucks are ready for service the following morning with a full charge

  • No reliance on external public charging infrastructure is required

The approach supports efficient planning and consistent vehicle availability.

Evaluation and Technology-Neutral Approach

Felbermayr said future deployment of additional electric vehicles will be assessed following a test phase, allowing operational data to guide further decisions.

The company confirmed it will remain open to different drive technologies as part of its broader sustainability strategy, continuing to evaluate innovative propulsion systems that align with operational and environmental goals.
