While prototype testing is still ongoing at Liebherr’s Ehingen facility in Germany, the crane has been delivered to Mammoet for evaluation in real-world operating conditions. Liebherr has confirmed that series delivery of the LTM 1150-5.4E is planned to begin in spring 2026.
Supporting Mammoet’s Sustainability Strategy
The introduction of the electric mobile crane supports Mammoet’s wider sustainability strategy, which focuses on reducing CO₂ emissions across its lifting and transport operations.
Peter van Oostrom, Global Projects Asset Director at Mammoet, highlighted the crane’s potential impact based on operational analysis in the Netherlands.
“We examined a random two-week period in the north and south of the Netherlands and estimate that we can operate this crane fully electrically with the battery pack nine days out of ten. This helps us to reduce emissions for Mammoet, but also for our customers.”
Mammoet continues to invest in low-emission technologies, including electric SPMTs, electric skidding systems and electrically powered SK ring cranes, supporting clients working toward emission-free construction sites.
Liebherr’s Electric Crane Development
At Bauma 2025, Liebherr presented the LTM 1150-5.4, featuring the new LICCON3 control generation. A key highlight of the platform is the LTM 1150-5.4E variant, which incorporates a battery-electric drive system enabling quieter and emission-free crane movements.
According to Liebherr, the crane’s integrated battery allows it to operate autonomously for up to four hours without a power connection. When connected to site power, only a low connection power is required to deliver full crane performance, with the battery acting as an efficient energy buffer.
This approach allows the crane to meet the operational demands of modern construction sites while supporting sustainability goals without compromising lifting capability.
