Berry Cranes Expands Fleet with 12-Tonne Böcker AK 52 Truck Crane

30 Second Takeaway

Berry Cranes, the UK-based crane rental specialist, has taken delivery of a 12-tonne Böcker AK 52 aluminium truck crane, further strengthening one of the largest aluminium truck crane fleets in the country. Mounted on a four-axle Mercedes chassis, the new crane delivers a 52-metre tip height, long reach, and advanced control features supporting efficient, flexible lifting across a wide range of projects.

New Böcker AK 52 Joins Berry Cranes Fleet

Berry Cranes has added a Böcker AK 52 truck crane to its fleet, marking another investment in high-reach, lightweight aluminium lifting technology.

The new crane is now based at the company’s Towcester headquarters, where it will support a variety of lifting operations across construction, roofing, and specialist installation work.

High Reach and Strong Load Performance

Mounted on a four-axle Mercedes chassis, the Böcker AK 52 combines compact road transport with impressive lifting capability.

Key specifications include:

  • 12-tonne maximum lifting capacity

  • Four-section main boom

  • Three-section telescopic luffing jib

  • 52-metre maximum tip height

  • 45-metre maximum radius

  • Three tonnes at a 17-metre radius, with a lifting height of 31 metres

This configuration allows the crane to handle heavier loads at longer reaches while maintaining the manoeuvrability expected of an aluminium truck crane.

Advanced Control and Outrigger Technology

The AK 52 is equipped with a wireless colour remote control, featuring automatic levelling for fast and accurate setup.

Additional features include:

  • Individually variable outrigger beam positioning

  • Enhanced stability on restricted or uneven sites

  • Precise load placement in urban and residential environments

These capabilities make the crane particularly well suited to projects requiring speed, flexibility, and minimal site footprint.

Long-Standing Partnership with Böcker

Commenting on the delivery, Böcker UK said:

“Thank you, Neil Berry, for the continued support and trust, since the first truck crane was delivered to you back in 2008!”

The latest delivery reflects a long-standing relationship between Berry Cranes and Böcker, built on reliability, performance, and shared commitment to specialist lifting solutions.

From Single Crane to Diverse Modern Fleet

Neil Berry founded Berry Cranes in 2000 in Towcester, South Northamptonshire, starting out with a single 30-tonne Kato truck crane.

Prior to launching the business, Berry spent 17 years as a crane operator, working with companies including:

  • Marsh Plant

  • Thames Crane Services

  • Davis Crane Hire

  • NMT

  • King Lifting

Today, Berry Cranes operates a diverse fleet that includes:

  • All-terrain cranes from Liebherr, Tadano, and Grove

  • One of the UK’s largest aluminium truck crane fleets

The addition of the Böcker AK 52 further strengthens the company’s ability to serve customers requiring high-reach, efficient lifting with reduced site impact.
