Unusual Morning on I-10: Crane Hijacking Leads to Multiple Crashes

On August 16th, just before sunrise, Louisiana State Police responded to a startling scene on I-10 near Vinton. A construction crane—not in use by workers—was found obstructing westbound lanes, triggering multiple crashes, injuries, and major delays.

The investigation revealed that 37-year-old Matthew Vincent allegedly abandoned his truck after it became stuck in a nearby field, crossed the interstate, and unlawfully entered the crane. Once inside, he manipulated the boom, sending cables into active traffic. Two injuries, multiple crashes, and significant property damage followed before law enforcement secured the scene and placed him into custody.

This bizarre case is a reminder of just how critical vigilance, safety protocols, and quick response times are when it comes to construction zones and heavy equipment.
